Do I need a sound bar? We get asked this all the time and one thing is true across the board: today’s TVs are incredibly thin and beautiful — but with no room inside for a decent speaker, audio suffers. Dialogue can be very difficult, sometimes even impossible, to hear. Big sound effects (think "Star Wars") are tinny and unimpressive. Surround sound ain't happening. And though just about any sound bar provides a smart and relatively inexpensive way to radically improve TV audio, the really good ones are extremely impressive – and the great ones will give you goosebumps. And today, we’re going for great.
A good sound bar will vastly improve the audio quality of your TV-watching experience. The sound bars of today can bounce sound and deliver fantastic surround sound that you wouldn't believe. They deliver excellent sound quality for not just what you watch on TV, but many are now built to do double duty and stream music. They can make a significant difference to sound quality as a standalone speaker or many can easily be incorporated into a full-blown home theater system with the addition of a subwoofer or pair of satellite speakers.
Last, if you’re serious about great sound and you really want to do this right, check out our “Sound Bar Buying Guide.” It’s a less-than-10-minute read; and covers everything you should know about sound bars before you buy. A sound bar truly is the most cost-effective, space-saving way to add immersive sound to your home theater experience. So stop relying on your TV speakers.
And with that, off we go…
