About Bluesound

Bluesound is a brand that offers wireless, high-resolution multi-room audio systems, designed for audiophiles seeking premium sound and seamless music streaming. Much like competitors such as Sonos, Heos, and MusicCast, the BluOS platform is a software-based network of music streaming devices connected through a home Wi-Fi network and managed via an intuitive mobile or desktop app.

Bluesound brings streaming services like AirPlay, Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, and many more into home audio speakers. Having multiple Bluesound devices allows for seamless music playback and control in every room where a Bluesound-connected speaker is installed. You can play different music in separate rooms or group rooms together to play in tandem.

We will be focusing on the preamp streamers in the BluOS ecosystem.

Bluesound NODE 2024 (Gen 4)

Bluesound NODE Wireless Multi-Room Music Streamer

The NODE (Gen 4) is a versatile music streamer and preamp built for high-resolution audio enthusiasts. It features intuitive touch controls, an upgraded DAC for rich sound quality, and supports advanced audio formats. Bluesound’s thoughtful packaging includes all essential cables and adapters, making setup easy. With a wide range of input and output options—including analog, digital, and HDMI—it seamlessly connects to various audio systems and external sources. Available in matte white or black for $550, the NODE (Gen 4) combines sleek design with impressive functionality for any home audio setup.

Key Features:

  • Input & Output Connections: Includes analog RCA, subwoofer output, digital coax, digital optical output, a 3.5mm combination optical/analog input, IR control input, eARC HDMI, USB for external hard drives, and more.
  • Processing Power: Powered by a robust ARM Cortex A53 quad-core processor.
  • DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter): Equipped with the ESS Sabre DAC, capable of handling high-resolution audio formats like 32-bit/384kHz and features MQA decoding for near-master-quality audio playback.
  • Design: Capacitive touch buttons, matte black or white finish, and premium packaging.

At an MSRP of about $550, the NODE 2024 offers a wealth of connection options, making it compatible with almost any external amplifier or AV receiver.

Bluesound NODE NANO

Node Nano

The Bluesound NODE NANO is a compact, budget-friendly alternative to the standard NODE, offering the same core performance in a smaller package. With Bluesound’s signature DAC and powerful processor, it delivers excellent audio quality for its size. While its design sacrifices some features like subwoofer and headphone outputs, as well as input connections like optical and analog, the Nano still includes essential outputs and networking options. Perfect for smaller setups, the Node Nano offers high-quality streaming and connectivity at a lower price point.

Key Features:

  • Core Tech: Shares the same ARM Cortex A53 quad-core processor and ESS Sabre DAC as the NODE 2024.
  • NODE vs NODE NANO:
    • External power supply via USB-C.
    • Fewer connections: Analog RCA, digital coax, and optical outputs remain, but it lacks subwoofer and headphone jack outputs, as well as input connections like optical, analog, and HDMI eARC.
    • Simplified design at a lower price point.

At around $300, the NANO is a budget-friendly, no-fuss option ideal for smaller setups.
